All too often teachers feel disconnected from professional development and struggle to find meaningful ways to apply it into the classroom. The Carlisle Area School District in central Pennsylvania began a PEER (Professional Development, Enthusiasm, Evolution, Reflection) program with 11 district identified model teachers. The teachers reflect on how the PEER professional development is fundamentally different from traditional professional development and ways it has changed students’ learning in terms of engagement, collaboration, meaningful assessment, room arrangement, and the role of the teacher.
