Hopkin - Building a Culture of Classroom Coaching

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Dr. Hopkin and Ms. Solway will provide an insight into how technology can be used to support coaching both as a tool for outstanding teacher development and education in the classroom. A working definition of what we mean (and do not mean) by the ubiquitous term ‘coaching’ will be provided, along with sound-bites from teachers about the difference it makes to their practice.  Presenters will describe the four Pillars of Coaching:
1. Retrievable (thematic) learning;
2. Retrievable (personalised) learning;
3. Predictive (personalised) learning;
4. SODA (self organised developmental arc) learning
We will show examples of what is meant by each pillar, and will answer the challenge of how a teacher can self analyze: “You can’t coach what you can’t measure”. We will describe and demonstrate use of cellphones and iPads to collate self analysis and coaching content as well as use of Go Pro and MS Kinect to track student movement around Elementary and Kindergarten learning spaces.

This session will describe the journey, pitfalls encountered and solutions discovered in using technology to support coaching.
