Steve Hernon

St. Brigid School
Principal, Presenter, Consultant
New York, New York
Steve is a veteran Nursery through 12th Grade teacher and administrator. A progressive educator and relentless learner, who seeks to reimagine education through creative, research-based strategies. If asked to summarize his philosophy into one word, Steve would choose “opportunity”, and throughout his career he has worked to provide opportunities for all students to have quality opportunities for learning experiences that meet their needs and interests. Currently working as a Nursery to 8th Grade Principal in the East Village, New York City. Steve lives with his wife and two children in Manhattan (he expects to soon adopt a dog as well).

Steve obtained his Masters of Education in School Building Leadership from St. John’s University, and is completing his doctoral studies in K-12 Education: Leadership, Management, and Policy at Seton Hall University.

Working for over 14 years in urban and suburban schools at all levels of K-12 education, Steve implemented many successful programs and initiatives leading to student improvement. At the high school level, Steve was instrumental in expanding access to, and improving the quality of, College Board A. P. Courses; designing student-interest driven electives; and pioneering new uses of technology for instruction. At the early childhood, elementary, and middle levels Steve expanded parental involvement; moved social & emotional learning to the heart of the curriculum; and transitioned to blended learning instruction that was data driven and computer supported. At all levels Steve significantly increased student activities and learning in non-traditional academic areas such as: yoga, cooking, performing arts, fine arts, computer programming, and broadcast media.

In the near future, as a compliment to his school leadership, Steve will be seeking a position as an university adjunct professor, and expanding his speaking and consulting services.
